Forensic science presentation

Today two of the Forensic detectives (Kate and Gavin) came to talk to Nepia about Forensic Science. They started by talking us through what it was and how it can help the detectives.

They started off by telling us about the glass breaking and the tools the criminals used to break it and  they also talked about the swab which was used for saliva and DNA.

Next they told us about blood splats and different ways blood can be seen, For example the luminol lighting which is used to see blood stains that you can't see. They first sprinkle the luminol on the floor or object and turn the lights off to show the blood.

They then talked about firearms and the trajectory of bullets.

Overall I thought they did a great job and I learn't so much about Forensic Science and how it is used.

The old house in the woods

Walking up the old limestone path was a blast from the past because I remembered this exact moment from when I was young. I slowly stepped on the old crusty welcome mat that was still there, even after all these years, and looked inside. Everything was broken down and the bricks had been caved in. After all these years all my belongings were still there but they weren’t in good shape. I walked over to my bed and saw what was left but I didn’t just see what was left, I was something I shouldn’t have.

I could slowly See the exit of the town hearing bombs going off in the background behind me. My heart was thumping like it was about to jump out of my chest and my hands were shaking so much I could hardly hold on to the steering wheel of the car. When I reached the sign I was quite relieved that I had got out but it wasn’t over yet because right behind me I saw flashing lights red and blue speeding up behind me, I didn’t know what to do, suddenly I heard a voice like it was through a microphone and was yelling at me to pull over, but I thought the complete other way so I speed up and got to the main transit roads and got away. My family was already at the new city, I was by myself for this one. I got to the airport just in time to get to san francisco. The airport man was standing at the desk waiting for me to get my passport out but I said it was in my bag and had already checked in so he let me on. Illegally.

I was on the plane and had a sigh of relief after all that I’d been through but there was a big problem I had realized that I have broken two laws in 3 hours, racing away from cops and getting on a plane illegally to san francisco. My head was all wound up and I thought to myself, I had two choices either stay there and die or get out of that and run away not thinking about the trouble I got myself into.

I got off the plane after a 5 hour flight from Iraq and, what a journey. I saw my family waiting at the gates of the airport and gave them big hugs, but there was just one last thing to tell them. We all got in the taxi and got to our new apartment which was really nice. We all unpacked our luggage and found our bedrooms which for the kids was really exciting.

After the fun of unpacking and relaxing we again got back in the taxi and drove off to get diner. On the way the taxi driver by the way was really nice told us where everything is and where to get the groceries and where the middle of town is. The city was so pretty all lit up at night and all the tall buildings stood out to all the rest. We got to our restaurant which was only like 5 minutes away from our apartment. The food was really nice aswell. I said to the kids “this is what we are going to be having for the next 2 weeks”, they laughed.

It was only 8:30 at night and we all crashed. We got back to the apartment and I just fell on my bed like I’d just died.  it was the morning and  we got up at 10 o'clock in the morning.  it was probably the latest I've ever slept in.  you know that feeling when you have to tell someone something but you can't, that is what I'm feeling now because they still don't know.  One day I will have to tell them  what is going on, but it isn't that easy.  I got up and did my usual stuff,  cleaning my teeth,  getting dressed, Eating breakfast,  bang bang bang, it was someone at the door,  I couldn't think who it was,  could it be the neighbours or could it be someone that I know.I walked to the door slowly.  as I walked slowly I realised that it could be someone looking for me and I slowly step back I heard the same voice yelled come outside if your name is…  I tried to hold back but the voice made me come outside, It was one of the police commanders  asking for me wondering where I was,  I was pretty  afraid he was going to do to me and then I thought how to make him happy because really when you are in trouble with the police the only thing you can do is to make a point that you were just doing something you weren't doing and lying but that isn't good enough, the only thing you could do was tell the truth to your family and to the cops.  I slowly walked up to him and told him what was happening but he interrupted me by saying “ sure I've heard your story but it wasn't good enough for me”. At this moment I thought that I should of stayed there and died  but either way it's going to happen.

I knew the best thing for this was but suddenly  I heard a voice come to the door it was my wife she had no idea of what was going on and came out looking quite awkward she said “ what is going on” the  policeman said “ oh you haven't told her yet have you, bad choice, either way she was going to find out”  she said “ what is going on I need to know now”  I tried to speak but the words wouldn't come out I knew this was a whole stuff up for me and my family but it was going to end up badly anyway. the policeman told her what was going on and she just ran back inside quite angry but also confused.    

   

Matahiwi Marae

The matahiwi Marae trip today was very interesting and quite a cool marae. Our class went with two other classes, room 16 and 17. Our first one we went to was the wharenui and the kaumatua spoke about the history and how the place was made. Our second one was the wharekai and the main speaker spoke about the art panels and what the art meant to us. Our third one was outside and one of the speakers told us about maui and his brother. Over all I liked the experience and it was very different.  

manderin lesson

Today in class we had our mandarin lesson and I learnt to draw my name in mandarin and pronounce it too.I was at drums for a little bit of it so I missed some but I still had fun. This is how to write it  Bul-ade-ng and the chinese symbols are 布拉登.Even though I was at drums for a little bit I still had fun and learnt alot today.

Te Reo Rata and Totara

Te Reo Rata and Totara

SUMMARY: Rata was told to go cut down the mighty totara and carve a waka out of it. Rata went out the next morning and cut it down with his axe. That night the birds and insects put the tree back together. He went out again the next day to be shocked that the tree was back standing up again. By the end of the day he had started to carving out his waka it became night time and he stuck around hiding in the bushes then the creatures came out and he grabbed the piwakawaka and demanded why they kept putting the totora back up. They said because you haven't asked for permission so he asked and the birds of the forests call tanemahuta he was allowed to so the birds said come back tomorrow and it will be carved so the birds set to work. The next morning he came to a beautiful carved waka.

Moral:  

Tiakina nga manu, ka ora te ngahere. ka ora te ngahere, ka ora te manu.

Look after the birds and the forest flourishes. If the forest flourishes, the birds flourish

If you want to get trees from the forest you need to get permission from the birds and tane mahuta.

I’ll never never forget the time when I first surfed a wave in australia.

I got up one morning in our hotel in australia and asked mum, “What are we doing today mum?” She said that first we would go to a nice cafe and get breakfast and then go to some  surfing lessons at Mula beach. I waited and waited for my sister to do her hair which took a long time and finally when she was done we got in the car and drove off.

We arrived at a cafe in sunshine coast (where we stayed) and had breakfast. Then we got back in the car to go to Mula beach which was only a few minutes away and arrived there only we didn’t know where the surfing lessons were.

When we found the surfing lessons were we all got into our wetsuits and got our boards and went out with the instructor to the ocean. He told us how to get up on our boards and surf a wave. When that was over we got in the sea and listened to the instructor what to do first, my sister and I got pushed out from the instructor and into little waves of course me doing what every boy would do tried to get up and stand up on the board but I fell off.

Now it was my sister's turn and she just got up then fell back down again. The instructor told her it’s fine when it’s your first time and even when it’s not you still fall down. The instructor pushed her out like what he did to me and she did exactly what i did, got up then fell off the board.

At the end of the lesson I did not want to stop but we had to because it was nearly dinner time and i was getting so hungry i could of eaten anything at that moment, so we drove off back to sunshine coast to eat.

The Noises In The Attic

( based on a true story )

One dark gloomy night a little boy was in the attic looking for his stuffed bear but the bear looked different than usual. He slowly and tiredly creeped down the creaky stairs and went back to bed. The next day he heard noises coming from attic and went up to have a look. But that was the complete wrong decision so he raced back down to his mum’s bedroom but saw something even worse than the noises from the attic.

It was night and the boy didn’t have enough toys so he went up to the attic not remembering the noises and got another toy but it was too late and the boy was thrown against the back wall and slitt by the throat not knowing who did it and let out a great scream, the dad raced up to the attic and saw that the boy had been the mum but also saw something else and heard “look behind you”…

(Chapter 2)

A dark shadow was creeping up behind him and struck like a light. The next day the house went on sale. A man went to have a look at the house not knowing it was haunted. The man who was thinking about buying the house seemed to be a nice man but not knowing that, if he buys the house that will stop.

The next day the man said “yes I’ll take the house and so he did. As soon as possible the man raced home and told his over excited family the good news. That night the man and his family had moved into the haunted house and heard noises in the attic. The man got up out of bed and had a look upstairs, He heard the same sentence as the original owner of the house did, “look behind you”.

That morning the family started looking for the dad but could not find him and thought that he went out for a morning walk like he always does but a few hours later he didn’t Debbie back. They were wondering where he was but suddenly they heard a noise coming from the attic, a sort of scratching noise.

Should we have an extra hour at school a day?

Should we have an extra hour at school a day?

We agree with this statement

This extra hour must be used for:

• sport.

• homework so we dont do have to do it at home.
• Electives.
• Tutoring.
• Clubs.
• Leadership games.
• Building relationships with friends.

This is good for NZ's parents because they will be able to work late to get more money to pay for they're family, they're for the country will be richer.

This extra hour must not be used for math or other subjects because at this time off the day students are to tired.

Journal Entry

I tried to pull Don off me but it didn’t work so I tried again and it worked. I rushed to the hospital with Don on my back like a fireman's lift and got there just on time I wrapped his arm round my shoulder and lay him down on the bed and rushed to a nurse.There I was in the hospital hand on his shoulder him on the bed and said don’t worry Don you will be alright. Today was a strange day and didn’t feel right. Then Don said there's something on my conscience, I am a scab and have all this time. I would have thought he would have said that earlier but he didn’t. I had tears in my eyes almost crying.So I Guess that’s it then Don yes mate that’s it and he closed his eyes and slowly died. See you Don I said and held his warm hand. To me war is silly because if you wanted to go to war it’s like saying you want to kill yourself but I guess the men had to do it for their country to either lose or win plus the friends you lose aswell.

13 STORY TREEHOUSE

The title is 13 story treehouse by Andy Griffiths with Terry Denton. The book has 212 pages and 199 chapters full of adventure and discovery.

The two main characters in this book are Terry and Andy (the publishers of the book) who have a problem in every room of the treehouse.

The bad guy is a sea monster that evolves from Terry getting sea monkeys in a package and one of them turning into a sea monster.

The conflict in the story is Terry and Andy trying to get a book finished to publish for kids, and without getting fired by the boss.

The book is set in a treehouse that Terry and Andy made themselves, with a bowling alley, a see through swimming pool, a games room, and lemonade fountain.

The plot is that Terry and Andy have to make a book for the boss/publisher to publish it for the kids in the world before it’s too late.

The most exciting part of the book is when Terry and Andy get out the marshmallow gun and shoot the sea monster and put it outside.

The final resolution is that Terry and Andy killed the sea monster and lived happily ever after.    

The message that the author is telling you is to never look away.

Moving House

“Here is another  box for you mum” I said. On Saturday my family was moving house to havelock by Karunga gardens. It took up heaps of time to move all the big boxes but it still worked. When my mum first opened the door I rushed inside and went to find my room, I didn’t have to compromise with anyone because they already had their rooms.

To me the house moving doesn’t feel real yet but it will soon. That night I went to Wills house for a night and came back the next day. At Will’s house that morning Will suggested to go to inflatable world in napier so we went and had great fun there. When I came back home I was at my new house and going to decorate my room. That night it was the best night in my life but the bad thing was our tv didn’t work.:)   

Dream Bedroom

My dream bedroom has a luxury jacuzzi a cricket pitch carpet and a hammock to sleep in. It has a balcony that holds my  and kawasaki ninja and limo drive around .My onsuet has a marble sink and a shower with fish in it like an aquarium. Speaking of aquariums I have a indoor aquarium screen and a treasure chest at the bottom. To finish it off I have a robot butler that is at your service 24 7.

A Soldier's Tale

I fell to the ground and so did the others. We all were stiff and the air was cold and full of coughs and murmurs.

I tried and tried but the line was to long and I knew I wouldn’t get through it, but forchinataly I did through the big line I fled with men staring at me.

I can feel what they feel and me aswell I know they can’t see or hear the gas shells behind them and I feel like they're going to die as well, they look like old men trying to run a marathon after having no sleep but I guess they feel like it aswell.

Run save yourselves the gas masks are on the floor in your kits hurry hurry get them on in at least 4 seconds now!!!

One man was on the ground still putting the gas mask on but it was too late the gas took over I ran to him but I didn’t know he died I saw the poison in his eyes but I was lucky because I got in quick.

The clouds of gas took over and it looked like I was in another land by myself. I could hear the voices of dying men and suffering yelps.

I heard a weird sound coming towards me and I freaked out but it  was only the man who nearly died but this time I know he is going to die this time.

How would you feel being behind the wagon watching your best mate slowly die in agony and pain and seeing this poor man fall to the ground and die the man was pale and shriveled?

What would it sound like to hear the man dieing and coughing up blood?

Mobility Scooters

Mobility Scooter Mayhem

Yay he’s here I shouted. I know what we're going to do will come with me and I’ll show you. Will had come round to my’n and is going to stay the night. Wow, we said when we saw the mobility scooter and got on it as soon as possible. I got on the scooter and I felt like a rally driver in a race, I was on the scooter and will was walking, and we already new who would win… the scooter of course. Now it was me walking and will on the scooter will won that one. We cruised down the drive back to the house and I was driving but will was on the back. It was a really bumpy ride will said, and I agreed, because the scooter has no suspension, AT ALL!!!. We were at the house and we started off road on the grass and hills.

We thought we had fun but really, we just got sore bottoms.
